Strip away the trappings.
Start with the man.

Whatever else you think about Christianity, Jesus himself is difficult to dismiss. Who was he? What did he care about? Why did people follow him—and why are people still listening?

Before the institutions, labels and accumulated religious culture, there is Jesus himself.

He lived in a particular time and place, among ordinary people under the pressure of empire, poverty, illness, ambition and religious certainty. He entered that world without wealth, office or military power.

And yet he spoke and acted with startling authority. He welcomed people others avoided, confronted people who were sure of their own goodness, forgave sins, healed the suffering and talked about God as a Father who had come near.

A PERSON WORTH HEARING

What mattered
to Jesus?

God’s kingdom.

Jesus said God was neither absent nor indifferent. God’s good rule was drawing near, and life could be reordered around that reality.

People others overlooked.

He noticed children, the sick, the poor, outsiders and people carrying shame. He gave dignity before demanding respectability.

Truth in the inner life.

He cared about more than appearances. Love, mercy, honesty, forgiveness and the motives beneath our actions mattered deeply to him.

An invitation to follow.

Jesus did not merely offer ideas to admire. He invited people to trust him, learn his way and begin a different kind of life.

WHY LISTEN?

You don’t have to agree before you encounter him.

Maybe Jesus is familiar to you. Maybe he has been buried beneath bad experiences, religious language or other people’s certainty. Maybe you have never given him much thought at all.

This is simply an invitation to hear him with fresh ears. Ask what kind of person he was, whether his account of us rings true and whether the hope he offered might be real.
